Misery Does Wonders for the Figure

Elf-boy is driving me crazy. I know you’re reading this – meet me you twat! How can you decide what you feel for me if I’m not there?

Anyway, fuck him.

Today I went to work, and enjoyed myself. I didn’t have to do much, so spent most of my time hanging out with co-workers and chatting. I made a small tombstone for my Box Guy (who I have a bit of a crush on, cause he’s nice to me and gets down boxes for me). They’re all really nice to me, actually. They listened to me bitch today, and Box Guy actually said to me “I’m not very good at this sort of stuff, but if you want to talk . . .” which was very sweet. So yeah, work was good. It was good for me to be up and about, and doing something.

Oh, but those love songs are killing me.

Tonight I went out to a restaurant with my family to celebrate my cousin’s girlfriend’s birthday. I love that restaurant – it’s this little Greek place, they have the best food. I love the décor – it’s all textured white walls with wood floors and ceilings. Looking up at the ceiling, I noticed it was painted with swirls and other abstract shapes.

It reminded me that I want to make a book, in the style of William Morris and other Victorian fairy-tale books, all faux-medieval. I’m thinking of doing my take on the Rapunzel story . . . I’ve always been fascinated by Rapunzel, and her great ramparts of hair (although they were never honey-coloured in my mind, always red). I love the implicit power of that much hair – like in the Samson and Delilah story.

But anyway, I’d love to make that book, with the story illustrated in the margins and illuminated initials at the start of every page. And the best thing about the medieval style – it’s totally in-character if the figures are off!
