The World Explained

I got the results back from the doctor today – I am totally and utterly disease free! Woot!

I also got a copy of The Name of the Rose today, for a tutorial presentation. I haven’t read it, and everyone seemed rather surprised. I’m told I’ll enjoy it – I hope so. I tend to go for medieval mysteries, especially ones with religious overtones . . . I don’t know what it is about medieval Christianity, but it just fascinates me. I think perhaps it’s the stability of the world – you could say something, quote the relevant book, and you’ve won the argument. Nowadays, there are no accepted authorities on subjects, everything’s up for scrutiny. But back then, you had Cicero, Boethius, the Bible and the Church Fathers, and you were set.

My medieval history lecturer today spent the entire lecture lambasting the Sensationalist writers – those ‘scholars’ interested in the Cathars and the Templars, with all their conspiracy theories and conjecture about the Shroud of Turin and the bloodline of Jesus. I know it’s all bull, but it’s interesting bull. I love conspiracy theories. I think it links back to the reason why I like medieval Christianity – it just explains everything, the whole world is neatly packaged up and now makes sense.

Elf-boy’s a fuckwit, but there’s nothing I can do about that. I’m done chasing around after him and trying to figure him out. I’m just his friend now . . . and a part of me prefers it that way – leaves it open to find someone who’s not about to jerk me round.
