Hot Fudge
September 10, 2003, 9:09 p.m. Beautiful moon tonight – lovely and full. I have a strange obsession with the moon. It’s so elegant, and pure . . . I was up till 12:30 last night, reading the Gospel of Matthew. Good stuff, Jesus was a kick-arse guy. Some of his opinions I don’t agree with, but you know, he had his heart in the right place. Anyway, it’s not about to convert me, but it is enlightening, particularly in giving me the source of the whole poverty controversy of the thirteenth and fourteenth century. Got bailed up today by a girl who’s in my Philosophy of Religion class – not the one who gave me the Bible, but another girl who’s apparently been watching me (she likes the way I handle the Wanker). She was good to talk to – we discussed matters of ethics and religion over lunch, and she was really pleased to find an atheist open to discussion (she’s Catholic). Apparently most of her atheistic friends avoid such topics like the plague, which is a shame. How can you learn about other people’s opinions and beliefs if you don’t talk to them? I also caught the bus today with a girl I used to go to high school with. She dropped out about year ten or eleven, and had a baby about 18 months ago. She’s now going to TAFE, working towards an eventual law degree. We discussed all the people we used to go to school with, and where they are now. So many seem to be going nowhere . . . in receptionist jobs, having children, involved in illicit affairs. A lot of people I didn’t expect to, are in TAFE courses (but really arbitrary ones – business management and stuff like that). I don’t know, I guess I’m a uni snob, but I always figured if you weren’t at uni, or working on a definite career . . . your life wasn’t going anywhere. I know, that’s an extremely close-minded view to have. I guess I just can’t imagine myself being happy anywhere but uni, and so find it a little difficult to imagine others being so : ) Of course, when presented with people’s happiness at their situation in life, no matter where it is, I can’t dispute it.
