I Think the Bloom is Off the Rose
November 10, 2003, 12:28 a.m. ’Scuse the pun in the title, but I really do think my love affair with Orlando Bloom may be over (did anyone else just hear Melodrama cheering raucously?). Seriously, I was listening to the cast commentary on Fellowship today, and honest to God, I just wanted to slap him and get him to shut up sometimes. Okay, admittedly, he was alone when he was making his commentary, and no one’s really that interesting talking to themselves (that is, unless you’re Billy Connolly). And, he was talking about scenes he wasn’t in, so all he could really do was praise them – “Oh this is wonderful, this is so fantastic, this is just so, so great, I just love this part, isn’t it amazing what they’ve done here?” – but he could have just had the sense to shut up, like Liv Tyler did, and only talk about scenes he was involved in. I prefer to hear anecdotes and thoughts from and on the filming, not meaningless flattery. I mean, we all know it’s a spectacular film, why else would we be bothering to listen to the commentary? So Orli, you really don’t need to spell it out. Granted, I am only half-way through it, so I haven’t really heard his commentary from scenes he was in, and maybe they just forced him to say all that stuff so they could make the commentary more appealing to ditzy teenagers with web-shrines called Blooming Marvellous . . . but there I go again, making excuses for the men I’m infatuated with : ) No excuses! So far, Mr Bloom, your audio commentary is crap. Ha!
