Brown Paper Packages Tied Up With String
November 25, 2003, 9:40 p.m. Today I signed up for some more shifts at work. Not actually sure if this is a good idea, as they’ve started interspersing Christmas carols amongst the usual dregs of 80s and 70s music that they play over the PA system. This will continue until all they play is versions of White Christmas, Joy to the World and My Favourite Things (for some bizarre reason). Ad nauseum, minute after minute, hour after hour, day after day, till it reaches saturation point, critical mass – till I just can’t stand to hear one more thing about Rudolf and his frickin’ red nose, or bloody Frosty and his Frankenstein act. Then, I get scary. Then, I get dangerous. Then, I break out . . . MY SANTA HAT. *Cue Mad Scientist Cackle ™* This year it’s got a battery and red stars along the brim that light up – very high tech ; ) And yes, I will wear it at work. Are ya scared yet? I’ve already started my Christmas shopping (only a month to go!). I’ve bought three presents so far (and haggled for one! I got three candles down from $9 each to $7!), and spent today personalising one of them. I’ve also bought wrapping paper, seals for my envelopes, and tomorrow, I will go shopping for Chrissy cards, and more presents. I am seriously, seriously frightening. Hopefully it’ll stop raining though. It’s been . . . well, not pouring, because it’s not been of flood-like proportions, but it’s definitely been constant. It’ll stop for about half an hour, but it’ll always start up again. People have been complaining, because we did have some lovely Summer weather for a few days back there. But it’s always like this in Spring . . . in September, it warms up, but then peters out, and the heat comes back for a few days throughout October and November, until December 1st, when suddenly Summer explodes upon us and suddenly it’s swelteringly hot and we’re all reaching for the ice while holding a damp rag to our faces to filter out the bushfire smoke. This hasn’t been a particularly deep entry, but meh, it’ll do : )
