The Stationery Chick and the PDE Gun of Justice and Correct Pricing
December 04, 2003, 1:08 a.m.

Work. Stocktake preparation. Eek. Me with the PDE gun (which is usually fun times cause I love me some scanning. No, seriously) and a blue highlighter to say “way hey! This’s been entered into Da Systum!” Which is all fun and games until at ten to six (when I should, by rights, be going home) some guy comes in wanting 55 binders, 55 sets of one type of dividers, and 55 of another set of dividers.

I managed to haul out 47 of the binders, and grabbed whatever I could off the shelf of those dividers, because I couldn’t see any in the interims or overheads (places above the shelves, where we keep stock). System said we had about 20, I’m not sure how many the guy eventually got, but I did give him a list of places that have more. System also said we had 118 of the binders, but I got as many off the overheads and shelves that I could see, and then said “the rest must be in receiving, and cause it’s stocktake, I can’t touch em”.

That would have been okay, cept someone mentioned this to one of the managers, who is basically a mother to everyone in the store. In a bad way. You know how when you can’t find something, and you go to your mum and say you’ve lost it, and she asks if you’ve looked here, here and here, like she doesn’t believe you can adequately search for something, despite having 20 years rummaging experience? Yeah, well, that sums up this manager. Anyway, she was all “so you’re just assuming it’s out the back?” at 6:30, when I just wanted to go home, and my rather short reply was “yes, because I’m tired and my shift finished half an hour ago”.

Maybe that was a mistake.

Then they asked me to work tomorrow, and I said no, no, no, categorically no. I like work, I’m good at it, but I also have a life.

I didn’t update last night cause I was watching The Two Towers extended edition. Squee! Y’know, that Theodred’s pretty cute, for a dead guy. Pity we only ever see him cold and clammy. Now I’ve got me a hankering for some director’s commentary. Hoo ha!

Ah, I’m in a weird mood tonight. I keep getting the feeling something’s about to happen, and that I should be surprised it hasn’t yet. It’s odd, odd, odd. I wish it would just happen and get it over with.

I also wish it would stop bloody raining. We get two days of sunshine and then pay for it with five freakin days of humidity-induced rain. Hello! This isn’t the bleeding tropics, you know, we’re officially classed as sub-tropical. That means we get all the perks of the tropics, without all the nasty bits, like constant freaking torrential rain.

Give it a rest!
