This Job Would be Great if it Wasn't for the Fucking Customers
January 27, 2004, 11:25 p.m. Thank god it’s almost February first, thank god it’s almost February first, thank god it’s almost February first, thank god it’s almost February first, thank god it’s almost February first! Oh my freaking god! It just did not stop, from the minute I walked in until about an hour or two before closing, and that was only because we haven’t adequately advertised our extended trading hours. A task that would normally take me five minutes at most took me twenty five minutes, just because of all the interruptions. All the people needing 240 page exercise books (sold out), needing A4 grid books (we’ve only got 48 page ones), wanting this particular pen (system says we have 31, buggered if I could find em). As fast as we put some things out, they snatched them up like ravenous wolves. I thought we’d mercifully been spared the onslaught this year, but I’d forgotten that school goes back tomorrow, so of course everyone’s doing their shopping now. We were absolutely decimated by the Horde. Jesus H Christ, people, I'm not going to bother asking if you do this in your own house, because it's pretty obvious you do, but do you do it in other people’s houses?! Do you go over to your friend’s, or even someone you don’t know, and pick up their stuff, and put it in a completely different place? Do you break their stuff and toss it behind the sofa?! Do you completely destroy their displays of knick-knacks?! Do you fucking steal from them?! AARRRRGGGGHHHHHH! And if I thought today was bad, wait till next week when they all come in and the sale’s over, and they wail at us for having it before school goes back – “How are we supposed to know what they need until after they go back?!” Look, everyone else seemed to have a fair idea, some even had lists provided by their schools, so I don’t see why it’s so hard for you. And really, do you think I have any control whatsoever over when sales start and finish? But thank the heavens above, tomorrow I have the day off. I’m going to walk to uni (no mean feat, it should take about an hour) and hopefully pick up some of the books I need for this semester. I want to get my reading started early this year, so I don’t end up reading only three books in my course and doing my speech, essay and exam only on them. Yes, I’m a nerd, but I don’t care : ) Different people consider different things important, and this is important to me. It’s important for me to do this to the best of my ability, cause I’ll hate myself if I don’t, because I know I can do great stuff.
