What's in a Name?
April 05, 2004, 12:24 a.m. Because I'm bored, and I don't do this very often. Humour me. 1. What is your middle name? Claire – after my maternal grandmother. My first name is the same as my paternal grandmother. 2. If you had been born the other sex, did your parents tell you what your name would have been? Geoffrey, after my father. Apparently I barely escaped being called “Geofferina”. 3. Do you have children and if so, what are their names? No, but I have do have my characters. The ones I’m interested in most at the moment are named Diarmid, Saoirse and Liam. 4. If you were to ever have a child or more children, what would you name them? I’m not going to have children, but I suppose I will have more characters. I don’t know what they’ll be called, I usually let their personalities suggest names. But I do like the name Darcy, for a girl, and Luke, for a boy. 5. Most people know their mother's maiden name, but do you know your grandmother's maiden name? Which one? I have two, you know : ) Thomson and Brown. 6. Did you have an imaginary friend as a child? Nope. Did you? 7. What was the name of your first pet? Stephen, a canary. First, I wanted to call him ‘Birdie’, but Mum said he needed a proper name. And then I wanted to call him some girl’s name, but Mum said he needed a boy’s name. So Stephen it was. I think there might’ve been a cat called Fluffy before then. 8. What was the name of the first person you ever kissed? Elf-boy. Obviously not his real name, but you don’t get to know that here. 9. What was the name of the school you attended as a child? You mean my primary school? There were two: Camperdown Primary, and Petersham Public. 10. What was/is the name of your English teacher in high school? I had more than one, you’ll have to be more specific! The best one, however, was Ms. Ockenden, from my last two years. She was amazingly dedicated and intelligent. 11. Do you name your vehicles? What are the name(s)? Well, we have two cars, one an old one that used to belong to my grandma, which we refer to as the Shopping Trolley. The other one is newer and nicer, but it just gets called the Big Car. Before that it was a station wagon with cow-print car seat covers, that we used to also refer to as the Cow Car.
