It's Not a Mop and it's Not a Puppet, But Maaaan . . .
April 22, 2004, 10:16 p.m. Ah, the intellectual standard of the conversation amongst the staff at my work. I was trying to explain to a co-worker what, exactly, a muppet was, and how it was different to a puppet. All muppets are puppets, but not all puppets are muppets. I even drew her a little diagram, explaining visually how a muppet was a subset puppet, along with marionettes and sock-puppets. We also discussed whether or not Noddy and Big Ears were gay, and what exactly was going on between Bert and Ernie – simple flatmates, or lovers? Like I said, the intellectual standard – on par with nothing else : ) I’m working Thursday nights now, instead of Thursday mornings. Which means I’m there till closing every time I work. This is a good thing, because I get a perverse pleasure out of seeing people coming knocking on the sliding doors, wanting to get in after we close. I love doing the whole “we’re-closed-and-I’m-so-very-very-sorry-for-you” mime. I also love doing closing calls. Tonight, my closing call was “Attention customers, this store is now closed. Get out.” Of course, there were no customers in the store at the time.
