May 20, 2004, 1:24 a.m. I discovered a lovely word the other day: Esperance. It's a noun, and it means "hope". I discovered it while looking up the word Esperus, which is another name for the evening star. It's a nice name, isn't it? It doesn't actually have anything to do with esperance, it just sounds similar. It's actually from Hesperus which is what you call Venus when it's the evening star - you call it Lucifer when it's the morning star : )
