I Can Be True . . . Enough!

Saw Shrek 2 last night. It’s funny finally seeing a film everyone and their grandmother has seen and loved. I knew what was going to happen next most of the time, because I’d read about it on the internet, or been told about it by friends. I liked the film as a whole, but I have to agree with the Elf-boy’s estimation of it, that it was a lesser film compared to the original. It seemed over-indulgent in its gratuitous pastiching and appropriation of other films. I liked all the riffs on Hollywood and affluent America, though, like Versarchery and Farbucks, mainly because they stuck to the background and became incidentals to be picked up on in repeat viewings, not major parts of the story line.

I was surprised that I didn’t like Puss in Boots as much as I thought I would. I don’t know, but he didn’t seem to be a very fleshed-out character as a whole. I didn’t find him hysterically funny, and was confused about his motives and his actions. That subplot just seemed mishandled. But then, perhaps because I knew what was coming all the time, it just got confusing. If you know what I mean.

I was disappointed by Prince Charming. I just thought he could have been . . . smarmier. I mean, I got the feeling he was smarmy, but I didn’t get to see it as much as I thought I would. He should have stolen the scene more, if you know what I mean.

I can’t help but wonder if half my opinions on the film are just imposed upon me from everyone else.

This is rather scattered entry. I think it’s time for me to go.
