These Boots are Made for Walking
July 14, 2004, 11:49 p.m. I have new boots! Today I went searching for boots that were not possessed of a pointed toe, or a spikey heel, or a shamefully thin sole, and that were not crafted from slouchy suede, and lo, I didst discover them! They’re what I call ‘shit-kickers’ – boots that take no prisoners and always get what they want. Black leather that cleaves to my calf, till just below the knee. Laces that require a lady’s maid to get them done up. When I was at school, they were always called Gosfords, because they were “halfway to the Entrance”. I’ve wanted a pair since I was sixteen. And now I have them, and they only cost me $150! I love my boots. The amazing thing is, I can still be the biggest girlie-girl this side of Japan in them. I kept doing the whole giggle-and-dance-with-glee thing. Probably not wise, and in time you will also probably hear that I’ve broken my ankle, but oh well. Maybe I can land so I break my arm at the same time, and get a cast. I’ve never had cast before. I’m also loving the swivelly-hipped walk I’ve got going in these. The weren’t wrong when they said that the clothes maketh the man. If I can just keep the dorky smile off my face, maybe I could actually have some semblance of street cred in these : ) At the moment, I am starting on my reading for my English course for next semester –I am getting stuck into Fanny Burney’s Evelina, for my Jane Austen and Her Contemporaries course. It’s quite good, and I can how she acted as inspiration for Jane. After that, I have The Romance of the Forest to tackle – gothic novels rock : ) Anyway, I shall now retire to bed, and Evelina, and edumacate myself.
